Monday Mood

Hello!

Today was a great day. It started off FREEZING! it was in the mid 30's when I left the house to go to Prestonsburg elementary school. But it was great getting into school today for our final class with some of the classes. We had two 5th grade classes and two 4th grade classes, and they were great. It was always good to get to know them, learn about where they came from while teaching them things that I feel are important in todays world. For 5th grade, we are teaching them Anti-Bullying, which all the teachers were so thankful we were doing that. In 4th grade, we are teaching them about consumerism, saving their money, etc. and they really got a kick out of it. Today also had a really great flow about it as well. Communication was on point, I felt great to be back in school and the kids really did help bring my mood up. They were so sad to hear it was our last class with them. It was truly a remarkable time of growth from the first day I presented until today, where I felt so comfortable in all the classes, I recognized faces (names are bit tough to remember with 25-ish kids in each class) and kids really are the brightness to every day. In our final class, it was our second 5th grade class and I had a realization of how important the small things are to kids. Every Monday when we went into class, Jordan or myself would ask the kids what they did the past weekend and they were so excited to tell us. So today, we got in a little late and just started our final review and everything else we had to do, so at the end of class I asked if there was any questions, a kid raised his hand in the back and goes "Well, do you want to know what we did this weekend?" and I couldn't remove the smile from my face. I said "I sure do" and I went around to every kid who wanted to share and heard about their weekend. It ranged from sleeping and fortnite to travel to another part of Kentucky I need to see or doing something I have never done before. Each answer was just as good as the last and I got more overjoyed with hearing everyone laugh and be so happy. That moment hit me that this, this was all worth it and then some.

There are two things that I've felt today, and that is gratitude for the life I have been given and how important communication is. God is constantly reminding us to enjoy what we have, live in the moments and be appreciative for the things we do have. There are things in life we will surely want, and there is never a problem with that, but constantly wanting and never enjoying what we have, thats where things go wrong. I really lived in the moments today in the classroom and I've never been more appreciative of having the blessing that is being able and willing to serve. Ive also learned that my service is not only to the people of eastern Kentucky, but to others who are joining me on this journey. My friends, family, my girlfriend (I love you kara) and everyone else deserve my service to them. I couldn't do this without their support and pushing me to be the best me I can be and doing the right thing. That right thing applies to all situations. I need to show love, appreciation and I need to communicate with everyone. I think thats one of the big challenges that Gods guiding me through is communicating with everyone here and with him. I always like to think I communicate well, but when I want something, Im sometimes reserved in asking for it or speaking up. Why? well I don't think what I want is worth me speaking up and I try my best to please and serve others. While God sure does want us to serve others and put others before ourselves, we also are unable to pour from an empty glass.  So communication is essential for me to be what god wants me to be. Communication with him, with my family, friends and everyone else I interact with. I would also like to shout out Steve DePrimo for reaching out to me today, its always great talking to you man. I realize I need to reach out more to people and to God. Communication in general, whether you believe in god or not, crucial for me and for all of us to progress as we grow every day.

My last note of the night is geared towards tonight's devotion. It was a washing of the feet, which during Jesus' time if you washed feet you were the poorest of the poor. Jesus knew that he was no better than anyone else, and he got down and washed the feet of others, right there with the poor. It got me thinking, am I doing my part to help? Am I in solidarity with those who need me? Am I serving others? Through gratitude, communication and making sure I am doing what God has called us to do, I can serve as best I can.

Thank you for trying on my CAP!
Until next time, Peace, Love, and Blessings!
