Beautiful fall day at camp shawnee
Hello!
Today was a GORGEOUS day. I was in literally awe at the world around me. The sky was such a vivid blue, with a few marshmallow white clouds in the sky with all the trees looking like they were full and green as can be. Driving up to camp, the leaves and branches seemed to make a tunnel over the gravel road and it was just amazing. I've realized that camp really is my home base while being here in Kentucky. While I was there today, I really felt a sense of security, like I was where I needed to be and that I was in control. I was up at camp today with Jordan and Caitlin cooking for a managers meeting and I enjoyed every moment of it. I was in the kitchen with Jordan and we were just flowing well, it seemed as if we had worked in a professional kitchen before. We just cooked, prepped, baked and everything in between. Caitlin was out grilling some burgers and hot dogs (so good) and I worked on the salad & french fries. I had spice cake for the first time today with Jordan making spice cup cakes, some with chocolate chips and some without, with cream cheese frosting (yes you can clean the pool of saliva off the floor now) and it was DELICIOUS! It was really great to slow it down a little today and be at camp. I really could sit and reflect on my time here so far and where I need to grow and go.
I know ill always need to grow in my relationship with God and the devotional dedicated for today really spoke to me. It spoke about trusting god, letting him lead and not focusing on going through the obstacles alone. Ive learned a lot through the past 4 days about how much I need to trust god and how much I need to work on being the best me I can be. I think those things go hand in hand, where I let God be the light on my path and I will focus on him while continuing to grow, work hard and be the best part of camp shawnee I can be. There is a quote by the newly canonized (literally so happy) saint Oscar Romero in which he says "Each one of you has to be Gods microphone..." Now, obviously his is saying this in the times of El Salvador where oppression by the government was running rampant and treating the poor as if they didn't matter, but I think this is a huge part of my service. Being the words, the hands, the feet to Gods work and showing love to every single person I meet. It is what God would want me to do, but I also know and feel that it is the right thing to do. Compassion, love, understanding, solidarity, these are the things God wants us to continue to live out. So, my goal going into the weekend and the next week is to continue growing, allow God in and shine his light on my path, and I will be spreading love, compassion and solidarity with every single person I meet down here.
Thanks for trying on my CAP!
Until next time friends! Peace, Love and Blessings!
